This is a cult object from my book All Under Heaven. It was captured by the Thyumun (field army, similar to legion) IV “Yugangyae” during the Third Bujan War. It is a crowned crucifix where the Son of God is depicted as a being formed of mobile phone scraps. About height of a man, this would have stood before a regiment, channelling holy pneumas to fuel the warriors. When I designed this piece, I wanted the viewer to a sense of the familiar mixed with the culture of the All Under Heaven world. Everyone knows what a phone is, but what if it is taken far out of context? Worn into bits by time and taken out of context by hundreds of years passing, these scraps of phones are believed to be holy items. This piece reflects human dependency on technology….. No matter what region or time period, the phone will always be seen as a kind of godly device because of its legendary ability to access information.
